Style Guide: Stylish Stingy Brims

stingy brim felt hats

Love the brimmed hat look but not necessarily a fan of the wider brimmed styles? A nice and equally fashionable alternative are their stingy brimmed counterparts! Here’s a quick breakdown of the various styles you’ll find with us here at Hats in the Belfry.

Stingy Brim Fedora

Perfect for the fedora fan, this style keeps the classic pinched crown look with either a center dent or teardrop for accompanying it as well as the versatility of the snap brim. A “snap” brim is what truly makes the fedora what it is, granting you the ability to wear it in just about any fashion you want to! Wear it rolled up all the way around and popped back for a casual and hip look, or pull it forward and snap the front down for a more elegant profile–or even rock the asymmetrical look of instead snapping a side down instead for some extra kick. The choice is entirely yours, so let yourself have some fun with it! Why not check out styles like the Belfry Reese from our Handmade for Belfry line, or the Belfry Longo from our Belfry Italia collection to get started?

Pork Pie

Another favorite style, this is perfect if you’re looking for hats that come with a different style crown that the dented or teardrop shaped styles in fedoras or think the front pinch of the crown tapers the look of your hat too much. Instead, pork pies will have what is referred to as a telescope crown, which–you guessed it–looks like the end of a telescope with the lens. It doesn’t have the fedora telltale pinch either, instead having a smooth profile.

We offer both the rounded style telescope crown as seen in the Belfry Gravina and a diamond-shaped telescope crown in hats like the Belfry Lecce. Between the rounded and diamond crown styles, if you prefer a crown that sits a bit broader, we suggest the styles like the Gravina because the diamond pork pies like the Belfry Lecce have a slightly more narrow crown shape.

Trilby

While this may initially be hard to discern the difference between the trilby and a sting brimmed fedora (check out our Fedora VS. Trilby blog), trilbys give the class of a snapped down fedora without actually having the mobility of the snap brim so you get that sleek profile naturally. Most of our trilbys will have a comfortable teardrop crown, too, if you prefer such crown shapes.

For a classy look with a tinge of the luxurious, we offer the Belfry Coltrane C that has a cashmere inclusion in the wool felt, but if you want a trilby that has a bit of flexibility to feel more casual, we suggest checking out styles like the Belfry Alldo that have dressed down bands with fun leather accents!

We hope you check these out and more in our Pork Pie & Stingy Brim sections as well as our Trilby section, and enjoy looking for what suits you!
